Again my training was less than ideal but I managed to keep ahead of the 1h30m pace group and struggle to a 1h28m50s finish, 100 sec slower than last year. Leaves a good bit of room to improve on next year.
I worked hard to make up for a very slow first mile and did well to almost have reverse splits for the last few miles.
Good transitions and cycles helped me get a PB by 1 minute. I also seem to have finished 1st in my age group (40-44).
A slightly disappointing time through a combination a lack of training and congestion during the first mile. My final mile, passing people up the daunting Kyber Road, was a positive note.
The rain stopped just in time for a good race. Just a few seconds slower than the May race but I caught a few on the second run so I happy with the performance.
This was my 4th Ring of Kerry cycle and was the first time that it didn’t rain at all!!
