I spoke about Child Themes in the inaugural WordCamp Dublin on 14 October 2017. It was a fantastic opportunity. The weekend was perfect for absorbing and sharing knowledge, and everyone was cool and conversations were engaging.
The first WordCamp Dublin was held in DCU Business School on the weekend of 14-15 October 2017.
I was the first speaker in Track 1 and I encouraged the early risers to use child themes when working with a theme that they didn’t write. I had trouble sleeping the night before but I was encouraged that fellow speakers Amanda Webb and Eoin Dixon Murphy, whom I met at the Speakers Dinner the night before, sat in the front row and didn’t heckle me.
The slides are the highlights – the presentation notes contain what I said during the presentation.

An Honour
Speaking at the inaugural WordCamp Dublin was an honour and a fantastic opportunity. I mostly overcame my Impostor Syndrome to speak with confidence and authority. I did speak too fast but I was able to talk one-on-one with some people over the weekend and I made a point to talk slower then.
Live and learn
Watching other presentations was educational about the topics and about presentation skills. If the opportunity to speak arises again then I will apply what I saw.
