Carolanne chose an ecommerce theme and I made extensive functional and aesthetic changes for her. I tracked incomplete orders and resolved them with the customers after her TV appearance.
Carolanne rang me and we had a good talk about what she was looking for from her site – she would be selling handbags online.
She looked at some theme sites that I recommended and I evaluated them with respect to her requirements, primarily reviewing the software that the themes required. We ruled out a few Magneto based themes as Magneto has a reputation of being slow. We settled on a WordPress based theme using the eShop ecommerce plugin.
Carloanne required significant functional and aesthetic changes to the purchased theme. The theme was well written – it was easy to add numerous product highlights (e.g. New Arrival, Bag Most Wanted, Steal of the Month, Awaiting Stock and Sold Out). I enhanced the ecommerce code to allow for free shipping to Ireland and UK for orders over specified amounts.
Carolanne also felt that the use of ‘Cart’ was very American so I changed all instances to ‘Bag’. I also changed the names of a few of the checkout fields e.g. ‘Zip’ to ‘Area Code’ and ‘State/County/Province’ to ‘County’.
Carolanne wrote a press release and I converted the important keywords to links before submitting it to Irish Press Releases.
A few days later Carolanne was on Ireland AM, offering a free wallet for all orders received that day. I watched the site for incomplete orders and phoned those customers to resolve their issues – many were because PayPal does not accept Laser cards.
To enable the site for mobile users I purchased the the WPTouch Pro mobile theme and customised it for bags your bag.
Later we encountered some of the limitations of the eShop plugin e.g. the inability to offer a fixed price discounts (it only supports percentage based discounts). I investigated moving from eShop to WooCommerce but it was very complicated and would be costly.
